Albion Primary School’s ‘Bird watching, Nest Box Monitoring and Biodiversity Mural’ project set about growing awareness among students and parents alike about the importance of biodiversity and sustainability.
Building on the school community’s involvement in bird watching and monitoring over the past three years, Albion Primary School put their 2022 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant towards purchasing each class a set of binoculars to allow even more students to monitor birds in the school’s grounds. All 200 students now have access to binoculars, which they are able to use during their weekly Sustainability classes.
Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant recipient, University Preschool and Childcare Centre in the ACT, has been working to reduce food wastage and teach children how composting and worm farms can help the environment by managing their waste.
The students at The Rainforest School in Queensland have received a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant for waste management. Collaborating with the local community, they have engaged in recycling household waste, conducting surveys, participating in waterway and beach clean-ups, and caring for the coast.
More than 1,100 schools and early learning centres (ELC) across Australia will receive funds to help build and develop hands-on environmental learning projects through this year’s Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants program.
