Big thanks to everyone who completed our Junior Landcare audience survey last year. You have provided valuable insights into how you are engaging with our programs. You also told us what you’d love to see develop in the future for Junior Landcare.
We wanted to share some key insights with you.
We heard from early childhood, primary and high school educators, landcare groups, volunteers and parents. You had so much great feedback to share. Here’s just a few of the highlights we’ve picked out:
- Junior Landcare initiatives are making a meaningful impact, with 88% of respondents reporting that students engaged in Junior Landcare projects gained a stronger connection to nature. Hands-on learning (73%) and teamwork skills (60%) were also key benefits.
- 87% noticed improvements in the wellbeing of young people who’ve participated in Junior Landcare projects.
- An impressive 85% of respondents had engaged with JLC materials, with curriculum-linked materials proving to be the most popular (43%), followed by printable activity sheets (35%) and case studies (33%).
- Unsurprisingly, educators cited time constraints (46%) and competing priorities (31%) as major hurdles to engaging with Junior Landcare.
- Respondents suggested that incursions (54%), funding support (51%), and stronger curriculum integration (46%) would make it easier to incorporate JLC activities into their programs.
- Respondents expressed strong interest in professional development, with in-person workshops (59%), webinars (58%), and step-by-step guides (49%) topping the list.
- We hear you early childhood educators! There was a high level of interest for more content and resources to align with this sector, which is something we’re excited about.
Thank you again for your truly valuable insights. A big congratulations to the team at Bayview Kindy in Deception Bay, Queensland, who won the prize of a $200 Woolworths Gift Card, and a signed copy of Costa’s new book, Costa’s Garden. We hope your little legends are enjoying some Junior Landcare themed story time.
