Bandicoot Book Corner

Welcome to our Junior Landcare Bandicoot Book Corner. The Bandicoot Cook Corner is our brand-new resource for educators to find out about inspiring and beautiful books that will encourage children to learn about Australian Nature and the environment.

We have grouped books into topics that align with our four pillars of learning – Biodiversity, Food Production, First Nations perspectives and Waste Management.

Know about a book that you think should be included in our reading lists? There’s no better recommendation for educators than from like-minded peers. Please submit your recommendation here.

Why have we created the Bandicoot Book Corner?

Research regularly shows that reading for pleasure helps young learners to become better readers and why not use their enthusiasm for Junior Landcare activities to find out more about the environment around them.

We will regularly add new books to our online reading lists. The new Bandicoot Book Corner book of the month is:

A cartoon bandicoot reading a book

Eight-year-old Ella hates her new house. She wants to be back in her old house with her best friend Viv next door … until one day Ella discovers a secret pond in her neighbours’ backyard with an orchestra of frogs!

At her new school Ella meets Mai and learns about their class frog bog project. But when Ella finds out that the neighbours’ secret pond is under threat Ella and Mai must come up with a plan to save the frogs before it’s too late!

Readers will be engaged by Ella’s story as she settles into a new home and school and will gather facts along the way about frogs, habitat protection and life cycles.
